Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a model year Civic that had a lot of mechanical problems? I am in the market for a used Civic, and I want to try and avoid that problematic year if I can. Thanks

Well, I was actually thinking it was the 2001 models....whenever they first introduced the new body style it seems they had some problems if I recall.

I have had 4 civics in 5 years (not because they broke down they all ran great) but they where 93 95 99 and 00 and as the guy above said they where all 5 speen and i have heard that the auto trannys go out alot easier but overall civics get some of ythe best gas mileage and require little work.

STAYAWAY from 2001 and 2002 civics. They have a rubber piece near the transmission that eventually will melt into the transmission and lock it up. Happen to my friends civic a month ago and he old has 55000 miles on it but the dealer said it eventually gonna happen to all the automatic LX civics.

Hondas are good if you get 5-speeds; pretty decent mpg too. Hondas automatic trannies are junk, absolutely garbage. Do some research about how many people had automatic hondas with bad trannies.
