It depends on the relationship. I know a couple where the man is straight, but his girlfriend is bisexual. He's quite happy for her to have a girlfriend (in fact she's seeing a friend of both of them, who is a lesbian and has another girlfriend of her own).

But a lot of bisexual people aren't even into the idea. Bisexuality isn't about needing to have both (although some bisexual people claim they do); it's about being attracted to people regardless of their sex.

And I'd add that open relationships of the type I've described are not only practised by bisexual people. I know straight couples where both members have extra boyfriends/girlfriends.

It works for some people, and not for others.

Guys usually say no unless they can join, but the girls usually prefer to exclude the guys. The best way for bisexuals to date both sexes is to be non-committal with both. Once you commit to someone, you should not see other lovers, even if you're bisexual. Don't expect committed partners to be ok with whatever you want just because you're bi. I'm a lesbian and I'd never commit to a bisexual unless she was 100% committed to me.

Surely that would be just like a straight girl dating two guys.

My boyfriend is bi and I wouldn't let him date anyone else, male or female - and he wouldn't let me date a girl alongside him either.
