I'm moving to itlaity and of course I want to bring my laptop. so I'm wondering will I need to buy a new drive over there so I can watch dvd's or will I be able to use one from the US? I am asuming that pc droves are not regional but dose that include laptops or am I wrong all together?

Yes they are regional.

However you can usually change the region 3 or 4 times, so if you are moving there permanently you should be O.K. But then you will not be able to watch the DVDs you have now.

They are limited by software not hardware so it is possible to get different region codecs for your windows media player for example

Backup the completed not undemanding stress, boot sector, walls and all to an exterior storage stress or similar. Make the differences you pick. evaluate the suitable result(s). fix from the backup.

all are however... there region free programs(FIRMWARE), I don not promote any particualr one over another, so perhaps you might look into this further from the link(s) below: and rem free is nice!
