I use to ride a 98 Valk Tourer I sold it last year, now I am wanting another bike. Will I be disappointed with the power on a Harley street glide?

Unless you rode the Valk "balls to the wall" a large part of the time, I would not go so far as to say that you would be "disappointed" with the Glide. It is a good tourer and the technology (though certainly not state of the art) is solid and reliable. The power is good once you get rid of the stock air cleaner and pipes off the show floor - though not as strong as the Valk without putting in a couple grand in motor upgrades. Resale value is good as well. If you are contemplating a Harley as your next bike you will like it.

Comparatively speaking, oh yeah.

The Valk in stock trim was about a 95 hp engine with a real flat torque curve that resulted in around 98 ft lbs of torque.

A stock Harley 88 has roughly 59 hp @ 70 ft lbs of torque. Even the big bore stage III engine is only putting out in the 82 hp range at 95 ft lbs of torque.

But in all fairness comparing the high tech, flat 6 Honda engine to the antiquated, air cooled, push rod Harley engine is really comparing apples to oranges.

I own a Harley and I have ridden a Valkyrie before too. The Valk Has way more power and torque. The Valk is way smoother too. It's a hard comparision since you're talking about a flat 6 compared to a v-twin.

Not only NO, but Heck No. I have an 07 Patriot edition Street Glide. it has the 96 cubic inch engine, and I absolutely love it. After the 1,000 mile break in period (first 500 miles under 50mph, next 500 under 3000rpm) I ran it a few times. Opening it up, 70mph in 3rd gear with 3 more to go. Six speeds make a difference as well. On I-83 last week a car was messing with me, so I decided to leave them in the dust. At 110mph, they got the message and backed off. Haven't taken it past that...yet. but the tach was just at 3000rpm in 6th gear and it doesn't red line till 5000.

My dad bought a new Harley with the 96ci last year, said it's got lots of power. So you should be fine. You could also try the Victory bikes, or you could get the upgrade kit and make your Harley 103 ci.

Good luck out there.

Yes unfortunatly the Honda has a VERY flat torque curve and the harley Even with the new engine and six speed pails in comparison in stock apples to apples trim....but add a cam set, Zippers ECM, air filter, and exhaust (either V&H or Rinehart) and you will have fun
