My sister is a single mother with an arrest warrant. If she should get picked up with her kids in the car, or home alone with her kids, what happens to the children? Does social services get called, or will the police take the children to a family member?

Like the other answers. They will try to contact a family member or friend but if none available then social services will put in foster care till Mom out of jail or other arrangements can be made. She should have these plans made because once they are in foster care, it's harder to get then out. sometimes the family member must go thru background checks first. But if they go straight to family or friend then social services probably won't get involved.

They will call Social Services. They may or may not call a family member to take the children; if they don't then the family members would need to petition the Court for custody.

They always try to place them with a family member first, but if there aren't any, they go to foster care. Social services takes care of the placement, not the police.

they become a ward of the state and child services will pick them up, and then a family member will be contacted, unless you get a cop with a hart, then he may just call a family member to come get them!

All Good Law Enforcement will try to contact other familiy members... and if they can not be located then they call in Family services to care for them.

They are not left alone... if this is what you are thinking.

The police are probably going to try and pawn her kids off on you, so screen your calls for a few days.
