Well you should choose a big city: public transportation, free English classes available, universities, museums.
Here are my favorite American cities (I lived in NYC and i currently live in San Francisco - I know LA, Boston and Chicago for having been there many times)

New York City is awesome: but it is cold in the winter, hot and humid in the summer (yuck!) - but it's NYC, and you will have a great time there. 24-hour city - museums, nightlife - everything.

San Francisco: never very cold, never very hot --- mild --- sunny most of the year --- foggy in the summer. Very diverse city, awesome environment, great city!!! if you choose San Francisco, you also have Berkeley, Oakland, Palo Alto nearby. The San Francisco Bay Area is the best place to eat!!! tons of good restaurants.

Los Angeles: cool also --- some Europeans find it difficult to get used to --- I mean it is very spread out.
Bad air quality. You might need a car depending where you live but they do have good public transportation. I always had a lot of fun there.

Chicago: cool city as well. Midwest city (the city is ok but the rest of midwest is not that cool). Freaking cold in the winter!!!!!! watch out if you don't like cold weather.

Boston: charming, cute, good public transportation. East coast charm. Many universities. Great museums.

Choose well. hope that helped.

Go to a big city, you'll learn a lot fast and probaly have a taste of your cultural somewhere there too. All of the big ones are pretty expensive, I'd go with NYC or DC or San Fran, San is fun with a mild tem and is in the glisty california. NYC is one of the most productive and important cities in the world and you will find everything there. DC would be my personal choice just because I've spent a lot of time there, if you want to learn about America that would be the place, not to mention the constant flow of exhibits at the countless muesuems and it also has a large cultural melting pot. Stay away from the midwest, it's as boring as hell.

Chicago is seen by many to be the most "American" of the large cities. Very friendly people and less expensive than NYC or LA. The weather is interesting, though, from frigid cold to blistering heat, and everything in between.

San Diego,California. the elements is continuously pleasing. San Diego is a huge city ,besides the indisputable fact that the everyone is pleasant and comfortable (significantly better than.L.A.,etc). i'm a retired military veteran. That places me perfect next to between the most pleasing naval bases contained in the international. There are professional activities, all kinds of museums, and fairly pleasing parks to relax in or merely have a superior previous formed picnic in. it really is why i go with San Diego as my popular city.
