Yes. I have a cat named "Rodger D Cat"
I knew his mother before he was born.
I kept feeding a stay female cat which came to the apartment building in which I lived. She stayed pregnant and with kittens. I watched her raise two litters of kittens and was an adoring admirer of the beautiful kittens she continued to breed. I made a commitment to the idea of raising a kitten and decided to get one from her next litter.
Upon noticing her next pregnancy I fed her canned tuna, maceriel, cat food, vegetables, and even put vitamins in her food from time to time. There were other people in the building who fed her on a regular basis also.

After six weeks I decided to introduce myself to the litter. The mother cat allowed me to look at her kittens and talk to them. They had not had any human contact and hissed. I continued to visit them and to bring food with me for them.

After a two weeek period I had found one kitten who felt comfortable with my touch and would come out of the litter with the enticement of food.
I took him from his litter mates when he was about ten weeks old. I took him home to the apartment above their outdoor din. His littermates were not far and I allowed him to play with them for another week.

The next week his whole family was captured and distroyed.

He was with me in my apartment when this happened. I have been his family ever since. I named him Rodger, a mispelled name. I was seriously disabled at the time and found his company comforting.

I gave him a flea bath and took him to the vet for shots. We stayed together daily for the next six months, I rarely left home. Since I was not allowed to have a pet in the building I found a way to call him without calling his name; I whistled. As a kitten he took to being called by whistle and I took him for walks on a harnis I had made for him so that he would not get away. I was able to keep him busy and he learned to walk with me on the leash, to shake hands, to roll over, and to teach me how to be a good caretaker for his needs. He has no problem taking a bath every three to four months.
Well, we have been together for five years now. He has had many run ins with other cats. We have gone to the vet many times for different ailments. He has moved with me to several new homes and has not run away. Last month I bought and installed his first private entrance so that he can come and go as he pleases. He has yet to learn how to use it; so far it is with my assistance.

Yes I do consider Rodger to be a part of my family because he is obedient and has a unique personality. He has been my best friend when things were at there worse and I was at my lowest. He has shown unconditional love with never a complaint from him. He is indeed my love and son.

Our pets are property. NOT FAMILY! We don't share the same blood line nor are we the same species. I love our Pets, but our children are family, not our pets. Our pets are technically property even though under our family we love them to. However we have to remember that human beings were created to have dominion over all the rest of the creatures of the earth, That includes any pets we own. We aren't related to our animals. God creates animals including pets to serve people. The family pet is the family pet no more. I'm sorry if I offend anyone for I'm just telling the truth. We humans were created in the likeness and image of The Living God, our animals weren't. I however in fairness will say, being the proud farmer that I am, that I would take what ever time I could off if my blue doberman Azure died or my white doberman Marshmallow died. Those gals are sure sweethearts, and I would miss them terribly. Again didn't mean any harm, only stating facts. I hope there aren't any hard feelings, and good blessings to you all and all your little furry friends.

I Have Many Pets & (Breeders/Show Stock) Some Are Family, Some Are Friends & Some Are Just Pets (I Dislike A Few Of Them, Very Few)

I Breed & Show A Few Types Of Animals (Poultry & Rodents) So I Have A Few Hundred.

If A Few Of Them Died I Will Be A Mess, But Not Most.

If My Favorite Pet, One Of My Many Roosters "Blackie" Died, I'd Be A Mess For Months...He's My Baby, I'd Die For Him In A Heart Beat If Needed.

He's My Main Pic On My MySpace

My pets are definitely a part of my family. I have a cat and a newly acquired puppy. And yes, I probably would miss a portion of the work day at minimum. Depends on the circumstances and time of occurrence though. Say, my cat got hit by a car and I found him on my way out the door in the morning, I would probably loose it and not make it to work for a bit. Now, if he were ill and it was expected, I would probably be emotionally prepared and able to go on with my duties with just a bit of grief. My pets are like my children. As a matter of fact, I like them better then a couple of them!

OMG!! Definitely! My dog is like my son! I would probably be so upset that I would miss more then one day. Also my mom has a 14 year old lab and he got sick and I missed work to go to the vet with her! (I haven't lived at home for over 10 years!)

I have a Saint Bernard. My husband and I are unable to have children so she is our child. She thinks that she is human and acts a lot like us in many ways. I don't even want to think about that sad day but I know that it will come. I will definitely be upset to the point of missing work.

I wouldn't miss work or school if my pet died but my pets are considered such family members that they eat when I do and sleep in their own bed.
