Because Abraham Lincoln is responsible for getting rid of State's Rights. Before Lincoln, the federal government couldn't tell a state what laws it could enforce. But, after Lincoln, states had almost no independence. Lincoln wasn't a very nice guy if you read the real history, not what they tell you in school. That man was a failure at running a store, yet he became President, and failed in that job, too. I mean, he's the only President that had Americans killing Americans. That's why Boothe killed him. I only wish I could have done it.

Booth believed that if he was successful in the assassination of Lincoln , Johnson and Seward he could cause rampany hysteria and confusion that could breed new life into the Confederacy. With Lincoln out of the way, the South could hasve enough time to to reorganize and ensue a separate prace which would bring upon the South a worldwide recognition of the South as an independent nation, the preservation of the Southern way of life, the preservation of the institution of slavery, and the end of an oppressive Northern influence in the political and economic life of the South.
