Mr William Peterson, to whose house the dying Abraham Lincoln was carried after he was shot by John Wilkes Booth, operated a boarding house there. Because he had an empty room available it was an ideal spot to take Lincoln to where his wounds could be tended and he could lie in comfort. As we know Lincoln died the next day.
