has anyone tried the Nuvaring as a form of birth control? If so, how effective is it for you and do you like using it? I'm trying to find an alternative to pills.

I believe it is the spanish term for the vaginal hoop -- a female condom. Many men find it more satisfying, but I'm told it can be uncomfortable for the woman.

Nuvaring is almost as effective as the pill when used correctly (it's 98% effective) which means that you insert it when you are supposed to, remove it after 3 weeks, and insert a new one after one week without it.

Some women have complained that they can "feel it", or that is slips out during sex (just wash it off gently and reinsert). Other women love it and see it as a great option to the pill and other hormonal methods available today.

There are so many different effective birth control methods today that the best way to find a method that will work for you is to make a listing of what you "must have" from your birth control (effectiveness, ease of use, don't have to remember, etc) and a listing of "can't deal with at all" like daily pill, weight gain, shot, etc.

Once you have your list, visit your doctor to discuss which methods will fill the most of your must have, and have the least of your can't deal with at all.

If you are really interested in Nuvaring, discuss it with your doctor and try it out for three months to see how it works for you. It may turn out to be the perfect birth control for you.

Good Luck!
