Pros:

It encourages the government to be representative of the views of the people - so that people rule themselves rather than being ruled by others. This is, in principle, a pretty big pro.

Cons:

Governments trying to appease the majority of the people rule by appeal to the lowest common denominator. This means that the needs of minorities who lack wider influence on society may be overlooked.

There is no guarantee that 'the people' will make good decisions about what is best for them. Democracy assumes that people are qualified to make informed judgments on the issues that they are voting on. If actually they are just buying into ready-made opinions that have been sold to them by a minority of people with media clout who actually only have their own interests at heart, the democratic process becomes poisoned into serving the best interests of the minority with the clout.

Sadly, even they may not make the best decisions for themselves or anyone else either. Clout and smarts don't always correlate.

Conclusions:

The more highly educated the populace is, the more likely it is that democracy will work well for them.

Pros:
Democratically elected Governments cannot abuse their position too much as theywill be voted out in the next election.
This protects the citizen from oppression to a degree.

Cons:
Democratically elected Governments tend to be less effective, where strong and decisive action is needed for the good of society. They will refuse to act when action might cost them votes.

An election can deliver a "dictatorship of the majority" where the majority of the population is not necessarily right or just in their determination.
Adolf Hitler was democratially elected to power.

Cons: each so often inconsistent taking photos, lacks bulk, each so often holds returned offensively, no longer an fairly good post defender. it incredibly is approximately all of the cons i'm able to think of of, there is not any longer a very good kind of undesirable i'm able to assert with regard to the guy lol.
