can you upgrade dell laptops?

i'm thinking about putting a video card in it. and some extra ram

Lap tops are pretty much limited when it comes to doing upgrades. You can install more ram, and that is usually a very good idea in that they tend to come with just enough to run. As for upgrading the video card, you are pretty much out of luck. The three items that most lap tops allow you to upgrade are the RAM, the hard drive, and sometimes the processor if it isn't permanently attached to the mainboard.

the Videocard is only upgradable if the GPU isn't soldered to the motherboard. the ram is easily upgradable.
