multiply first equation by 15 to get rid of denominators...

(15)(2)(x+1)/5 = (15)(x/3)

6(x+1) =5x
6x+6 = 5x
x = -6

Plug x = -6 into original equation... to see if it is true...

2(x+1)/5 = x/3
2(-6+1)/5 = -6/3
2(-5)/5 = -2? Is this true?
2(-1) = -2?
-2 = -2 YES! Therefore, x = -6 is the solution for the 1st problem...
-------------------------------------------------------------
multiply 2nd equation by 8 to get rid of denominators...

8(3/8) = (8)(x+1)/4

3 = 2(x+1)
3 = 2x + 2
2x = 1
x = 1/2

Plug x = 1/2 into original equation... to see if it is true...

3/8 = (x+1)/4

3/8 = (1/2 + 1) / 4 ? Is this true?

3/8 = (1/2 + 2/2) / 4

3/8 = 3/2 divided by 4

3/8 = 3/2 x 1/4 ?

3/8 = 3/8 YES! Therefore, x = -6 is the solution for the 2nd problem...

1) 2(x+1)/5 = x/3
Multiply both sides of the equation by 15.

6(x+1) = 5x
6x + 6 = 5x
x = -6

Substitute -6 back into the original equation.
6(-6 + 1)/5 = -6/3
-2 = -2

2) 3/8 = (x+1)/4
Multiply both sides by 8

3 = 2(x + 1)
2x + 2 = 3
x= 1/2

Substitute 1/2 back into original equation.
3/8 = (1/2+1)/4
3/8 = ((2 + 1)/2)/4
3/8 = 3/8
.

2x+2/5=x/3
multiply both sides by 15

3(2x+2)=5x
6x+6=5x
6x-6x+6=5x-6x
6=-x
-6=x

3/8=x+1/4
multiply both sides by 8
3=2(x+1)
3=2x+2
3-2=2x+2-2
1=2x
1/2=x
