I had mine 19 years ago. I researched it, at the library, before I got mine. I guess that makes me a novice on the subject.
A vasectomy takes about 15 min. There is no scar. Sure there is a little pain, but not as much as getting a tattoo.
The urologist will cut the sperm ducts leading from your testicles. This will prevent new sperm from being mixed with your semen. You will be sore for about three days (take your Tylenol). After that you will be back to work. You can have sex again in about a week, but you should still use condoms for about six months, or until the doctor gives you the OK, to stop using them.
There are no side effects of any kind, if you are of normal health, and follow the surgeon’s instructions.
Back in 1989, when I was 21, it cost be $250 (cash, with no insurance).

The procedure is rather simple and quick. It is an outpatient surgery the cost me around $400. They actually cut the tube that supplies the sperm. You will be sore for at least the 2 weeks and the pain you will feel is similar to a punch in the gut. Complete recovery may take a few months. I am not sure if you can save sperm for future use, but I would recommend that if you want a 3rd child, then you should wait to do the procedure. Although reversible, you probably don't want to go under the knife twice.

My vasectomy was done in the doctors office. The whole procedure took about half an hour. I had the "no scalpel" procedure. I experienced no pain after the local anesthesia wore off, although, upon the advice of my doctor, I did ice the area on and off the day of the procedure. The next day I was out cutting the grass. No big deal.

NOTE!! They do NOT tie the vas tubes; They cut them and cauterize them. I had the surgery in 1971, some 36 years ago. It was done in an outpatient facility. I went home and used ice packs on my testes for 12-24 hours as advised. I had NO pain. A little discomfort but nothing debilitating. I was up and around the next day and missed no work at all. Best thing I ever did. Our sex life increased because pregnancy was no longer a problem. I'd do it once a year if necessary. No big deal.

When you have a vasectomy, the doctor will numb your area and take and tie the tubes. Your testicles will be swollen for about 4 days. My brother in law had this done about 5 months ago. he would get a frozen bag of peas and hold it on there to reduce the pain. I'm guessing that you can save your sperm through a sperm bank. (?) But you can have a reverse vasectomy, but it takes up to 5 years, to work. (So i heard) But ask your doctor for the correct info.

If you are already contemplating a third child Hun, the timing is not truly right~ Wait it out until your absolutely sure..Ins. will probably pay for the vasectomy, but no need to waste that money to get in reversed..they won't pay for that~.
