It's not your processor. It's your SLOW video card.
CHEAP SOLUTION- ATI 9600 Pro- much faster than what you have. It's cheap plus it has good OC headroom. It's just an 18 watter.
NOT CHEAP SOLUTION - 7300GT AGP. Other fast cards may just strain your power supply.

Its not that simple I am afraid. A huge amount of work is done by your graphics card in gaming. You can download the latest drivers for your graphics card from its home site, reduce your screen resolution, shut down anything not required to run the game (even anti virus if not playing on line) and check out the game(s) minimum system requirements. Also, most games have options for turning off textures (shadows, etc) which assists both graphics card and processor. If all this fails, play games your system meets the requirements of until you have some $$$'s to upgrade your system. To days games require AT LEAST a 256 meg video card..not that expensive. I think your processor is OK! I have had a lot of fun with an Athlon 1.00 in the past and you Celeron d 2.xx will meet most, if not all, current minimum requirements

A Cel 2.4 should be fast enough to play most any game. I'm thinking that your problem lies with either insufficient RAM, or a video card that is not big or fast enough. If you are using an on board video card, IE, one that is part of the mother board, It is probably way to slow. You would need to purchase a faster card. This would require that your mother board has either an AGP or a PCE-e slot. Today's games require a video card with at least 128 of ram on board, and that is a bare minimum. The card should also be able to handle DirectX 9.

2.4ghz is great, but you'll need 1gb of RAM, a good graphics card and a good sized hard drive.
A good graphics card at a decetn price is around $100, an extra stick of 512mb RAM is around 40. A 100gb can be around $60-$80(depending on where you shop but you dont really need another). Youll probly spend around $150 for these items total.

depends on how much memory you have and video card and hard drive too! Usually Celerons don't do too well with the games!
