It's ONE WEEK. No more than 7 days. You are fully preotected from pregnancy at this point. You are no more protected a month or 3 months later. Some doctors tell clients to wait a month or more, but this is just to ensure you're taking the pill correctly when you start to rely on it fully. But you only need 7 days of active pills taken correctly to be fully (99.7%) protected from your birth control.

Read the insert that came with your pills, and talk to your doctor. Depending on the pill, the time can be different. For example, the pill I am on says that if you start it on the first day of your period, you don't need a back up method of birth control at all, but if you do a Sunday start you need to use back up for a week. Doctors generally recommend you wait one full cycle before you stop using your back up method.

The pill is efecctive once you have taken it for 7 straight days. Once it is prescribed the doctor will advise a different method of contraception be used for the first 7days until it takes effect. The same applies if you miss one pill (excluding during the 7 day break for 21-day packs), you need to wait 7 days before the become effective again or you are not covered. This is applicable on both the combined and mini pills. Remember thought that it is still not always 100% effective even if taken properly.

i was told to wait between 3-5 days as if you miss 3 pills thats when you can fall pregnant so if you take at least 3 pills then it should be ok, but to be on the safe side i waited until after my first break through bleed.

For the type of pill I had, it was one full week. It works for me..I've been on and off it for 5 years and im not pregnant. So i've mastered the getting back on the pill routine. Usually when you get your pack it will have instructions and it will tell you when you are protected.

If you start in on ' day one '= the first day of your period it is effective at once. It is also effective on your 7 pill free days. This information is in the patient data sheet which should be inside every pack!

Initially they told me a month...but recently my gyno said 2 weeks. It may vary from pill to pill. I would ask your doctor or read the pamphlet that comes with it. It will tell you in there.
