When faced with the aspect of crutches, there has to be some specific problem that bothers you.

What I want to know is, if you know someone that uses crutches, or someone that has used crutches at some time, was there a problem that you were constantly faced with that you couldn't seem to find a solution to?

Or even if there was something that bothered you that did have a solution that you felt could be improved, I want to know!

Please and thank you.

I am not using crutches myself. It's just a project that I'm working on and I thought it'd be good to work on something related to crutch use.

IM on crutches now. I hate it!!!! Walking any distance is killing my GOOD leg and foot. A gel insert in shoe has helped. Then there is the fact that both hands are tied up using the crutches so i cant carry anything Stairs or the worst. I have figered out going down, but CANT get back up on my own, (tried and fell.) Also any bit of water on the bathroom floor and the rubber on the leg of crutches slides out from under you ( had that happen and fell) ( Keep this up and ill break even more bones)
I switched purses and now carry a big granny sized one, slung around my neck, so that i can put all kinds of stuff in it, since i cant carry anything in my hands. I put thick foam on the arm pit part of the crutches to make them more comfortable. And around home I DEPEND on my office chair with wheels.. scoot around everywhere in it. Still is a daily struggle though. Hope some of this helps ya.

Be careful of stairs!!
Going up the stairs? Feet first & then the crutches, with a friend close behind in case you fall!
Going down the stairs? Crutches first & then feet with a friend in front of you, in case you fall! I know, I tried going doen the stairs feet first & was left teetering in mid air!!! Thank goodness my daughter was in front of me!
Don't hang on your crutches with your underarms or you will be very sore. Adjust the length so that you can have a space between the crutches & your underarms. Use your arms to lift your body when walking.
You may want to add some fleece covers on the arm pads.
Be careful when it rains. The rubber tips on the bottom are great except when he surface is wet. The crutches will slide right out from under you.
Chivalry is dead! I was trying to enter a funeral home whileon crutches & there were men standing all around & no one would open the door for me to enter. The door was very hard to open. When I exited, I couldn't get out. Still, lots of people standing around. I finally asked, "Would someone please help me open this door?" A nice kid, about 11-12 years old opened the door for me. I told him "Thank you so much!" & rolled my eyes at the adults who were so rude.
Don't be ashamed to ask for help!

The others had good answers, however if you are having to add additional padding to the top that goes under your arm, the crutches are poorly adjusted. Crutches are adjusted to the height of the person and the length of their arms. Your weight should be resting on the palms of your hands, NOT your armpits. There are several nerve bundles under your arm and continuous pressure will make your arms go numb not to mention increased pain. Whenever you have to be on your crutches, insist that the person measuring them, leaves you room under your arm and the hand holds are properly adjusted to bear your weight.

My therapist told me to hold the crutches away from my arm pits, like 2" Aways step up with good foot on steps and down with the bad foot. hold ctutches next to your sides.
