My Dad has a 70 lb Golden Retriver that will literally sit on your lap, and jump on you! Anyone else think that this is extremely rude?

OMG, thank you. I have had this experience with several peoples pets. It's like they don't teach the dog a darn thing. I have had a dog constantly nip at me, and a cat that scratches the crap out of you every time you cross the room.Also the jumping the thing. I love animals, but they need to socialized and trained to be obedient.

Dogs should be trained (just like children) in how to behave in company
But if I am faced with one like that, I spend so much time and attention on the dog that eventually the owners move the dog away and restrain him. Lots of patting and attention and completely ignore the humans. The message gets through.

I only have one friend who has a dog like that and I always take it a treat like a bone or rawhide chew to keep it occupied.it usually works.
I love dogs but hers is way over the top and if the dog is in an over playful mood she usually puts him outside.
Dogs should be taught that jumping up or on people is wrong,I have two and they know it's not acceptable.

not at all, all you have to do is say "get down" if you dont like the dog on you.. the owner should take a hint and tell him to go lay down.
i dont mind getting kisses from dogs though, i love them!

Yes I think people should control their animals. My mother in law has pets that will do this. And when I say pets, it's not just dogs. It's cats, birds, and she has goats... yes goats!!!

I am a cat person and can't stand dogs that jump all over you! i just try to leave as fast as I can.Cats RULE!!
