No. The NBA uses a tournament format, kind of like the NCAA's, where the winner of 1v8 takes on the winner of 4v5 and 2v7 faces 3v6.

Unfortunately not. The Winner of 1v8 is going to take on the winner of 4v5 and the winner of 2v7 is going to take on the winner of 3v6. SO that means unfortunately if the Mavs get knocked out by golden state, then Phoenix gets to play San Antonio in the 2nd round already unfortunately. And Golden State will probably play Houston.
