I'll make it a little easier for you. (I take it you are local to Bellshill). Take theB7070 (North Road) towards Glasgow and Edinburgh Road which is the A8. Head towards Glasgow, and the road changes to M8. Keep on this to Junction 21 and join M77. Round about Newton Mearns this changes to A77. Stay on this road and you will arrive in Cairn Ryan thinking 'Well that was easy'

Take the A725 to East Kilbride and from there the 726 towards Kilmarnock. Join the M77 and then the A77 heading towards Ayr.

Go around the Ayr bypass and simply follow the A77 south aiming for Stranraer.

This road is a complete pain in the *** as it has loads of SPECS speed cameras. These work out your average speed, so it is no use bombing along and then slowing down for the cameras. BUT, once you get to Dumfries & Galloway, you can floor it as the cameras end.

There's not much of an alternative route. You could come down the M74, the A701 to Dumfries and along the A75 to Stranraer. Its a beautiful drive along the coast and camera free, but its a long way round for a shortcut.

Just give yourself plenty of time and set the cruise control if you've got it.
