using something like MS Frontpage or Dreamweaver, where the GUI allows you to add or modify any aspect of the page, plus you can see the code and effects of any changes to the code there itself. I learnt it this way, plus googling as well. cheers !

HTML is not really a programming language like C or Python or Ruby. It is very simple to learn, and I learnt it simply reading the HTML standards, available from http://w3c.org. But if you have a good html editor like Mozilla (the composer component), you can get along without learning html at all. Yes, learning the w3c standards is a good idea though.
