some of the neighbors trees are doing the same thing. It falls off in chunks. Their bark has been a little green also. It has been like this for awhile.

I think it might be an ash tree. There are little things off the branches that look like peas pods.

Your county courthouse should have a UW Extention office. I'd take a branch from the tree and a chunk of the bark that fell off. They're awesome--if they don't know right away--they will look it up for you and get back to you!

The trees have a disease. Without knowing what kind of tree they are, I can't tell you what type of disease it is. The disease is either being transferrred through the ground, or by animals. There are some trees that can be saved, but it's costly. More than likely, you'll need to cut the tree down--including the root system--and your neighbors will need to do the same. If only you do it, andyou plant another tree, chances are it'll catch the disease again.

maybe there ash trees or locust trees? if so than their dead. those stinking tree die all the time and make a mess.
