dude, it's totally addictive. I've been trying to quit it for a long, long time.

It is harmful if you smoke it a lot. it can give you lung cancer and other problems. You can definitely screw up big time while you're totally stoned and have a car accident or something.

It should be legal. If alcohol is legal, then pot should be legal.

"everything in moderation"

The science is controversial, to say the least. It's a fact that marijuana (smoked) has 10 times as much tar as tobacco. That's a lot. Admittedly most people don't smoke the equivalent of 10 joints a day, but if you smoke m & tobacco, you're asking for lung problems. Chronic bronchitis is probably the most common outcome, but this can be bad enough, and it can turn into emphysema, which no one in their right minds wants. M stimulates the appetite. Boy does it ever! So, it probably contributes to obesity, which is a definite medical problem. M also contributes to loss of impulse control. Think about this carefully, becuase impulse control is a big deal in psychology. Criminals have poor impulse control. M also contributes to panic attacks and paranoia. These are usually temporary states (over when you come down), but people can make bad decisions when paranoid. True, not everyone gets panic attacks or paranoid when stoned. If you do though, it's a good idea to stop using it. It's much safer to eat M, as then it won't have any effect on your lungs whatsoever. The problem is in controlling the dose. M brownies taste great, but it takes a good hour for the drug to take effect, during which time you get the munchies and eat more M brownies. I've gotten seriously whacked on M brownies. Like, unable to get up off the floor. I've also sat outside through thunderstorms, thinking it was just great to get soaked. Other than that, the government greatly exaggerates the harmfulness of M. It is true that criminal enterprises get rich from dealing. For that reason, it should be legalized, and taxed. The National Debt could be erased in 10 years if M was legal and taxed.

I think it's harmful and most likely addictive in the long run. My ex is addicted in the way that he can't cope and he gets really cranky if he doesn't smoke it every day. He's been smoking it daily for at least 15 years.

It has a place in society when used for medicinal purposes obviously. I have no problem with cancer patients smoking it. For the most part, I really don't care who smokes it as long as they don't bother me about it. I smoke cigarettes and they are harmful and addictive. I used to drink alcohol heavily. Just because I abused it doesn't mean it shouldn't 'exist'. Some people can act responsibly with certain substances. Just because I'm an alcoholic doesn't mean others shouldn't be allowed to have a few drinks.

It is not as harmful as cigarettes. today they put many chemicals in the cigarettes to make them more addictive than they are. but still Tobacco in its natural form has addictive properties, where as cannabis does not.
The only addiction to it I believe is a mental one, nothing very physical. You can't go too crazy if you go without it, that is to say everyone thinks differently and the reactions are strictly your way of thinking not an addiction.
as for harmful in long term use, Anything you put into your lungs will damage them. It is safe to say eatting it in baked goods will do no damage except perhaps give you diabetes (in the sense of eatting too much sugary foods)

I believe most of the myths out there of damage to the body, such as short-term memory loss were created in the 1930s by the creation of the federal DEA and "Reefer Madness"

I think it is a recreational drug with very little harmful side effects, much like alcohol. It was only legalized in 1970 by the USA.

Frankly I would rather see my tax dollars harder at work on other crimes such as human trafficking, hard core drugs and child abuse than busting anyone for pot.

The guy above me is ridiculous - most hard core drug users started out drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes too but they are not illegal.

i think marijuana has far too many medicinal qualities for it to be shunned by the government and radicals as a "gateway drug". people need to research it before they voice their ignorant opinions.

as a long time user, i can say it is not harmful or addictive. i smoke it because i want to, not because if i don't i get withdrawal shakes. it helps me relax and gets rid of my cramps. i don't know of any other legal drugs that will do the same without some adverse reaction.

I've smoked for 20 years. If I don't have it, I don't worry to much about it. Addictive? I don't feel like it is, and I don't feel like it's going to lead anyone to "harder" drugs. To me it is a mild sedative. Better for you than the numerous prescription drugs being taken by a majority of people. If the government legalized it, they'd loose a lot of revenue. But you know what? People are going to do what they want to regardless! If government was really "for the people, by the people", it would have been legalized along time ago just by popular vote.

It should be remembered that it was widely believed that cocaine was non-addictive in the 70s - now it is classed as addictive.

Blow is highly habit-forming and is proven to trigger serious mental illness in vulnerable people with a certain genetic heritage. People may want to use it ,but there is still a lot of dis-information put round underplaying its potentially harmful effects

Some use that as a lame excuse to try and legalize it. Pot is known as the gateway drug. Most hard core drug users started out on pot.
