in 1998 in NY, I walked into a cd shop and shoplifted a couple cd's. I was caught, put in jail overnight, and sent to court the next morning. My sentence was 24 hrs. comm. serv. I lived in MD at the time, and was just visiting NY for the weekend. So when I was released from court, i took the bus home to MD..so I never did my comm. serv hours. Now I am trying to join the military, and when a background search was done on me with the NCIC, it stated that I had a warrant for my arrest for failure to appear. So I called the NY ccourt clerks office, state's attny, police dept, and gave them my info, and asked to find out if I have a warrant..and they all sd no!!...but the problem is that on the NCIC report which is what the military uses to do a background ck, states that I do!!..so I am confused and I need to get this cleared up, b4 I join the Military. Can someone help me?

As this question has been asked and answered many times, I'm thinkin you are not bright enough to join ANY branch of the military. Put your paper hat on and go back to work.......

If you really want it cleared up- ask your Recruiter to assist you, that is part of his or her job. Knowing the warrant number would be a good idea when contacting the court, and that would be on the NCIC report that the recruiting office has- it would / should also state the dept. that it was issued from.

Contact your recruiter and ask him specifically what agency holds the warrant against you! It will state that information on the NCIC report.

Once you're provided that information, contact that office and clarify the issue with them as they are the agency that placed the information into NCIC in the first place!

Best wishes.

You do have a warrant out for your arrest. You need to take the information you have from the military's background check and go to the NYC clerk office. There they will straighten it out for you. I am assuming that the Court Clerk Office is being a bit lazy. Background checks don't lie.
