To install new ram, it needs to be the same type (ddr or ddr2, it needs to match the speed (i.e., 533mhz), and it must have the same amount of pins. Your motherboard will decide whether the speed of ram is supported, and whether it supports ddr or ddr2.

im not sure about single sided and double sided, but...

ok, ddr and ddr2 are different types of ram.
1.) ddr can be installed alone, while ddr2 must be installed in matched pairs.
2.) ddr2 is usually more efficient, and faster.

You can use one ram with another in a different slot, as long as
A.) you have a spare slot (duh)
B.) the speed is the same.
C.) the type is the same
D.) pins are the same

The only way to find pins, i would assume is to open your pc and check, or find your model number.

Usually, you can type your computer model number and companies will tell you what your computer will accept, along with how many pins it has.

Upgrading system memory helps a ton for the price, say if you currently are running xp with 512mb, it will be noticeably faster. If your runnning xp with 256 mb, definitely upgrade, or ill bite your eyes out.

Hope that helps

The differences are few. DDr and DDR2 are faster but the kind you use on your motherboard are dependent on the type of slots you have. SDRAM is generally not compatible with ddr ram so you will need the manufacturers specifications.

Your notebook makes use of two forms of "actual" reminiscence. Random get admission to reminiscence (RAM) and examine in basic terms reminiscence (ROM). RAM is a risky reminiscence utilized by potential of the notebook whilst it somewhat is working application as a short lived storage - consequently the better the cost of RAM, the swifter the applying will run by using fact the RAM is shared by potential of the countless tactics working at any given time, inc the OS. because it somewhat is a risky reminiscence, its contents are misplaced whilst the notebook is grew to become off - continually save artwork periodically to disc in case of means cuts, etc. ROM besides the undeniable fact this is non risky and keeps its contents even whilst means is bumped off. The contents of this, besides the undeniable fact that, won't be able to be altered or written to by potential of you, the person. This includes issues like the BIOS training and device particular training. there is likewise digital reminiscence - this could be a component of your stressful force which the notebook / OS makes use of as an added whilst greater reminiscence is needed by potential of the applying working.

SDRAM has 168pins and 2 notches:

DDR has 184 pins and a single notch:

DDR2 has 240 pins and a single notch:

These three are NOT interchangeable. Single and double sided modules of the same type are interchangeable.

the different types of ram are not interchangable. grab a copy of cpu-z (free online). it will tell you what cpu, motherboard and ram you have in the machine you run it on.
