The 17 year old will only find some other way to kill his sister. Why take a fine toy away from others who are more responsible?

Perhaps we should ban 17 year olds, instead. Get to the root of the problem, ya know?

Banning is the only answer people come up with every time there is an accident or a mad person involved. Accidents happen and mad people are abroad all the time. Don't you think it is a better idea banning mad people. The world by its nature will never be a safe place for humans or animals - period.

I dont think it was an airgun - i think it was a gun that had been converted to firing live rounds. Unlike the the US we will not brush this under the carpet. I know people might not want to hear it but it seems to be another gun incident and people of afro- caribean origin are at the centre of it again.
The lads was 16 or 17. With reference to recent events thats actually quite old. The law needs to be tightened to people owning or carrying guns illegally, if our government wanted to do this they could, we dont love our guns that much. And we dont have the likes of the NRA to stop us. And the age of responsibilty needs to be dropped a few years. Guns are designed to kill people - its that simple, unless your'e the police or the army - you dont need one.

If you want to ban dangerous weapons, you might as well start banning everything: hammers, butter knives, sticks, hell, you might to start banning trees. Anything can be used as a weapon. And, quite frankly, it makes me sick when people try to tell me that the answer to occurrences like this is to ban the object used to kill. Perhaps if we just taught our children some responsibility instead of raising them in a protective bubble, most of our problems would be solved.

No 17 year old should be allowed nowhere near any kind of weapon, was this an accident? I haven't heard this story - is it in UK? Airguns have been around for a long time for hunting and various other shooting sports and there have been many many accidents when the wrong person gets hold of them in a moment of madness, especially hotheaded teenagers with something to prove.

No, responsibility needs to be taught.

There is little in the home that is not lethal in one way or the other. You wouldnt teach your child to put his head in the oven or get inside the tumble-drier ... and neither of those items would be banned and just as lethal.

Parents need to teach their children how to behave responsibly. An airgun is not a toy, and if this was an accidental killing, it would seem that it was treated as such. I grew up around guns, we had them in the house, but were taught how to use them responsibly, and to never, point them at anybody.

On Friday night a car travelling at almost 140 mph on the streets of London killed a women pedestrian and a Taxi driver.

Time to ban cars also???

How about banning idiot parents from buying their children these weapons, or just banning idiots from having kids - this would sort out a lot of the country's problems!!!

I don't think so. They're only lethal if you're an idiot. Hopefully the parents are teaching there children to be responsible, and hopefully supervising there children. Most people know not to point a gun, air or otherwise, at another person.
