eh???
if you are inserting a written dvd (ie movie) the disc will be closed therfore no space!
if you have already written a file (say 100mb) to the dvd then there should be over 4gig left (choose multi-session with your burning software!)

as for th hard drive do a cleanup and delete prvious system restore points!!! this will clean upt to another 32gig (possibly) depending on how often you defrag and clean ect....

finally if you have been ripping files to the hd (even incomplete) thay will be in the target folder!
ie for movies you could have incomplete.vob1 then incomplete.vob1 (2), incomplete.vob1 (3) ect and these will be at the least 1gig each???

Are you trying to install the DVD burning software and there's no more space on the hard drive? Your 160Gb may have a partition (drive E or F) which could be empty because you were putting everything in drive C. Just use that extra drive.

Hard drive space is seperate to space on writable media.

Try using a new blank disk, it sounds likely that the disk you are using in the rewriter has been written to already.
