Are you sure it's a brand problem or is it a DVD + vs - thing. Most newer writers will do both plus and minus R disks, but some of the older ones will only do one or the other. Make sure you're using whichever one your writer is compatible with.

When DVD's were invented, Sony patented the process for making them. All other companies use process "close
to what Sony invented. So each DVD brand is just a little different then the others. Some of those process work better with certain brands of burners then others. Check the documentation for your burner, and it will tell you which brands work the best with it.

It depends if your burner is single or dual layer.
