In college, I just had the most unusual conversation with a guy I hardly even know. He came up to me and asked if I had a copy of Command & Conquer 3, and I said yes. He asked if I play it online, I said no.

Then he bluntly dropped the bomb: He wanted my game serial number, so he could play online. Apparently, he has an illegal copy of the game, and wants to use my key to stick to it.

As I said, I don't know this guy. I only saw him a couple times in the last two semesters, walking around campus. He asked for my cell phone number so he could call me and take my serial number via phone.

What do you think of this short story, and what should happen next?

Don't ignore him, but don't give him the serial number and don't give him your phone number.

Tell him that you don't support software piracy and that you won't share the serial number.

If he continues harassment report him to the campus cops and the dean of students. If that fails, call the real cops.

Firstly: The morals of what you portray should dictate that pirating of software should not be condoned. Thus you could either take this as a possible conclusion to your narrative, or essay (it is still too short to even be considered as a "short story"); or you could turn this into a clever thriller, with this unknown guy becoming your worst nightmare. He could stalk you, become pest by phoning you at odd hours of the day and night, finding something with which to blackmail you, etc. He could be the front man for a sinister secret quasi religious society whose beliefs are along the story lines of Command and Conquer, and who see themselves as the new age Messiahs who will rid the world of capitalist rule, etc.
It could also turn out that the serial number to your game is in fact the number of a Swiss numbered bank account, unbeknown to you, in which there are two rare fossilized eggs worth millions, of diamonds, or gold bullion, etc.
The latter all makes for good reading material, and you could still have the ending adhering to the accepted norms by letting the mysterious guy end up in jail, or some likewise fate: Crime shouldn't pay! Good luck!

if he wanted a small amount of ur time or maybe was hungry and wanted food that would be a different story. Don't hook up with him as he is a user.

Was he intimidating? Did you feel bullied? He sounds tough to me. I don't know what you told him but a good line would be: My DAD would KILL me or My FIANCE would kill YOU!!!
Intimidaters only hear what they want to, then they kick. Always be quick to stop them because they're timing you.
