I don't see that there would be a problem, but you don't say what size power supply you have or what else you are running on your computer. You can always upgrade your power supply if you need to. I have never had a problem with my power supply from changing to a larger hard drive.
Good Luck!

Its perfect. No problem with that. Even if you are using a 10 GB or 80 GB or even 1000 GB, its the same amount of power that would be given to the Hard Disk and all power supply units are the same.

So, you will not experience the slightest problem using an 80 GB hard disk with a Pentium III Machine.

Nah, you'll be fine.

The power consumed by a hard drive really isn't proportional to it's storage capacity.

In fact, the average power consumption of hard drives has *decreased* even though the capacities have *increased*.

Now, if you're going to use *both* at the same time, theoretically, you could overload your power supply, but that's unlikely. Most PCs come with power supplies that are big enough to allow for some upgrades.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just do it!

You did not list what the wattage was on your power supply, but it should be able to handle it. A hard drive is a hard drive. You usually only have problems if you increase the number of hard drives - such as adding the 80G without removing the 10G. Normally power supplies are designed to run four IDE drives (Hard/CD/DVD) and a floppy. That is why they give you that many connectors on the power supply.

No it's not true. It's okay to use a 80 GB hard drive. It will not make any difference in the power usage.
