I've heard some of their songs and it seems pretty generic to me. I'm questioning it because there's a line in the movie High Fidelity where John Cusack says "Just because she's dating some Supertramp fan doesn't make me $5000 richer." The movie is centered around good music in general, and I tend to like the majority of the bands that his character likes. So my question is, is Supertramp considered music for people with bad taste?

Just to clarify, I can form my own opinions on a band. I asked the question in reference to the movie because I don't know all that much about the band's history, and I liked all of the other music mentioned in positive connotation. I have this notion that Supertramp is widely considered to be a cheesy unlikable band to those who listened to more of the independent music. I wanted to confirm this by asking the question to people who have seen the film High Fidelity.

Can't be all that bad - they remade "Give a Little Bit" - and that's a Supertramp song. I love Supertramp (but I love a lot of music). Bad taste is an opinion -- hard to generalize something like that -- that puts you in a group.

I've always thought Supertramp is kind of off the beaten path, like the group Yes and maybe Men at Work -- I mean, they have some unusual songs, but that's why I love 'em, they're not like everything else out there (was). Bad taste? I must have it, if that's the case.

I hadn't seen the movie, so the reference doesn't make any sense to me - it doesn't sound like it's putting them down, just that it isn't beneficial. (???)

What music is "good" is totally an opinion. I personally like Supertramp. Breakfast in America and Take the Long Way Home are two great Supertramp classics.

Supertramp, like any other band, is both good and bad. Depends on your tastes and even how you're feeling at the moment. But I agree that "Breakfast in America" is one of the best albums around. In fact, the title song has been spun into "Cupid's Chokehold", so we older guys have a chance to let the younger crowd know that even more of their music is not original! ;-)

Considered by whom?

Supertramp is awesome, and enjoyed great critical acclaim with "Crime of the Century" and "Breakfast in America." But here's a thought - instead of basing your tastes around what other people like or dislike, why not listen to a few of their albums and form your own opinion?

I have no opinion one way or the other about Supertramp. I think whatever music you like is good music. I'm someone who is all over the place when it comes to music, from metal to country. Alot of my metalhead friends think country is complete crap and alot of my friends who like country think metal is insane. But I like them both and that's all that matters. It's just a matter of taste. Enjoy your Supertramp. John Cusack is kind of a jerk anyway, isn't he?!

I've heard people call them girly but never gay. Anyway to answer the question: Its mostly because cocktails are often so diluted with juices or whatever that you can barely taste the alcohol in them therefore they are very easy to drink. They still get you drunk of course, but its the easy way out. Not to be sexist but women are often considered weaker than men...just saying. Men drink strong drinks like whiskey on the rocks to show they're "TOUGH" and can handle a drink that puts hair on their chest. Men shouldn't feel intimidated drinking a cocktail though, at least they're drinking alcohol.
