If its a res and a baby it is likely it will eat mostly live food. they like baby feeder goldfish and crickets and such things. I own two res and mine love to eat thawed frozen vegetables especially green beans.
THEY NEED TO EAT IN THE WATER!
make sure that all the food is being placed in the water or they cant swallow it.
once a day should be fine
Again if it is a res then it is semi-aquatic and needs mostly water and some land with a basking light
yours is just a baby most likely not even a year old.
You cant tell the sex until they are older but the males have very long front claws and a longer thicker tail.
I hope this helped if not this is a better site for all your questions:

You can feed it turtle pellets it will eventualy eat but you must give full spectrum light.Once a day would be fine to feed it , but not to much it will cloud the water. If it is a red ear slider it needs water and a place to bask and a basking light so he or she gets heated up to digetst the food. if its 11/2" it is less than a year old. When it gets larger you will be able to tell if it is male/female by the size of its tail. A filter can clean the tank of cleaning the whole tank.

Your RES needs a variety of foods. fruits/veggies/turtle pellets, my RES loves earth worms. I buy them from the pet store, it's safter for him. They are actually called Red Worms or Red Wigglers..they look like earth worms but they are smaller. He won't eat many veggies being young, but keep trying. He needs land and water...read up on the tempatures, it's important...75-80degrees for water and around 85 for land where he can totally get out of water to bask under his heat lamp. Tank needs new water every few weeks if not more. i just bought my baby res a 20gallon tank for now and all new stuff...filter, lights, basking rocks, aquarium, thermometer and few other little items and it cost me about 250.00.. Good Luck

Rather than type out a book, I'd prefer to refer you to a good website or two.
(On the other hand, if you had asked each as a seperate question, I'd be happy to answer it... on the other other hand, each of these has been answered here within the last week.)
