When I was pregnant with my first son, I had a cold for two months straight. It just never seemed to go away. I took Robitussin for the cough and Sudafed for the nasal congestion. I felt like I practically lived off the stuff.

I'm having that now and have had it for a couple days. Your body is a lot different when you are pregnant. I heard that you can get sick a lot easier than you would if you weren't preg. However, if you eat healthy and exercise to stay in shape, it will be easier to get over the illness. What you have could be allergies or a cold. The only way to tell is to go to your dr. Mine said it was probably allergies, but if it gets worse, I need to see my general practioner. I was also told that pregnancy can make your sinus and your mucus membranes produce more mucus and snot, which can also cause you to have stuffy nose. Hope this helps. I also had this further along with my 2 previous pregnancies so I know how you feel.

I have the same thing, minus the sore throat and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. It's been off and on for a couple of weeks and I live in southern New England. My doctor told me to take Robitussin DM for the cough and Claritin for the stuffy nose, but it doesn't seem to do much. I had my shower this past Saturday and even though I was sick, I had fun. Allergy season is here since spring is arriving, so maybe that's it. However, you can't cure a virus with medicine, only lessen the symtpoms. You just have to wait for your body to attack it and for the whole thing to go away. Trust me, I know how miserable you are but it won't last forever. Good luck to you!

It would be unlikely for you to develop allergies all of sudden during your pregnancy. Some of the stuffiness might be due to pregnancy because mucus membranes do swell.

But most of all, this really does sound like the common cold and it might very well be recurring since your immune system is weakened.

I've gotten 3 colds myself since January and everyone I know has had something terrible. It's probably just a bad year!

Sorry you are feeling so bad and hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe you could get something OTC from your doctor that is safe for pregnancy and it might perk you up a little for your shower.
