Its so confusing trying to figure out your due date because ive heard they go by your last period, but then that would make you father along then you really are because your not pregnant during your last period...so I guess what im wondering is...if my last period was March 23rd 2007, and according to fertility friends I ovulated on April 18th (my cycle is 38 days long with an 11 day lutel phase) how far along would I be today?? and when would my due date be?? Please answer if you really know how this works...its so confusing, Thanks!!

assuming that march 23rd is the first day of your last period, and your cycle is normally 38 days, your due date would be on or around monday january 7, 2008. that would make you 4 weeks pregnant. nbow you're considered 4 weeks pregnant but really, the baby only implanted about 2 weeks ago, they just count the 40 weeks from the start of your last period to make the due date a little bit more accurate. congrats on your little one and take it easy for the next 8 weeks because the first 12 weeks are the most crucial.

Yes, you do go by your last period because that is the best predictor, that's why pregnancy is 40 weeks instead of 38.
I went to www.due-date-calculator.com and got a due date of Jan. 8, 2008 and a fetal age of 3 weeks, 5 days. I guess that would put you at about 5 weeks, 4 or 5 days. Congratulations!

They calculate your due date based on the first day of your last period. There are "due date" calculators on baby websites like baby.com. Of course this is not the most accurate because until you are about 20 weeks along you won't get an ultrasound (which is the most reliable). You still have a long way off before giving birth that all you can do right now is take a guess at something like the end of January.

Even though you weren't pregnant during your last period, that cycle still "counts" by the 40 week method. So, calculate 40 weeks from the 1st day of your last period, and that's when your baby will be due. To me it would make more sense to calculate 38 weeks from that date, because that would match the gestational age. However, all the info out there is based on the 40 week method.

It's confusing & doesn't make a lot of sense -- welcome to motherhood!!!

To work out your due date you take the date of the last day of your last period, then add 40 weeks, this will give you your approx. due date
