Well, from what I have heard, People in Tokyo think that people from the far north or south are "INAKA" or "Rednecks" (not a literal translation). I live in the southern most part of Japan and we know that our lifestyle is not as trendy as that of the Tokyoites. No biggy.

There are mavericks. Many of them....especially those who have stayed in a few foreign countiries for quite a while. These are non-conformists, Japanese who do things "outta da box", so to speak.
Don't misunderstand me though, there are also a lot of Japanese who became ugly and behave arrogantly while on overseas stints.
The japanese who have never left Japanese soil is the most cultured people I have ever met, generally speaking. You can find millions and millions of them in Japan.

Yes, I used to go to horse racing at Fukushima and the people who came out of the hills on race day definitely appeared unsophisticated even to Fukushima city folks.

haha yeah they live in my town. I live in a small town in Hokkaido. You would never think of them as rednecks, just "small town people" but there are some pretty tacky ones.
I hope Im not one of them (^ - ^)

yeah, there are, you just havent found them yet, but if you really want to meet those who really "get down" with anything go to downtown tokyo at night, but even morning or late afternoon is fine, like shinjuku especially shibuya, its where all the young partygoers often go.
