Studying some Freud and Lacan, though I wonder where does hypnosis come into these theories?

Is it a bridge between the id and ego / imaginary and symbolic order?

I've believed for some time that the real, genuine state of hypnosis is akin to that place we go as we stare into space.
Not the astronomical version. And I don't mean 'gapping' as we listen to someone while we absent-mindedly do another task (tossing an apple core into a basket), and have to ask for the middle part of what they'd just said.

I mean as we're in gear, fully coherent about our day. For me, most common is when I'm reading. And for some reason my eyes will be pulled to a pure chance spot away from the page. It's only for a few seconds, but entire storylines and equations have been cerebrally descended upon, viewed, connected and come to be understood, all in an involuntary way.

Maybe it's linked to the dream dept. of our grey matter.

Perhaps it's a temporary shutdown given by the part in our brains equivalent to the invisible hand in economics terms.

I also believe there are specific reasons for going to those dream-while-waking states, and, as importantly, that they happen WHEN they do, as if to boast their being well ahead of where we think we might be. Some call it uncanny how answers in those particular times were, 'there all the while,' and it is we who had to struggle just to get to where we were lost, then, 'Oh, look--here it is! And I wasn't even looking/hadn't planned on finding it at this point.'

The right side of the brain, when it's allowed its natural stance is invaluable as a pressure alleviator. You've heard or read countless, successful creative people testify with zeal that their best stuff just came, simply flowed, on its own.

The term, 'comic relief' exists not by accident.

Yes, to be fair, in a sense, on the left side, someone, let's say an accountant, can do a stint of numbers and facts for hours, entering a momentum which hovers the neighborhood of a
hypnotic state. Rote memory and habit and intense, laser-like concentration can ultimately strain even the most balanced, cool head. That right brain serves to balance.

So, in answer, I'd say what we call the hypnotic state may well
be a vessel which has a capacity to enter the imaginary as well as the symbolic orders, but on separate planes and respective of specific levels at differing, given times.

"Hypnosis is a process whereby verbal suggestions made by one individual can be acted on by another who would not normally and voluntarily perform those acts". It cannot be said for definite whether hypnosis falls under the sectors you have mentioned. The "state hypothesis" of hypnosis merely suggests that this phenomenon of sorts, is an example of and altered state of consciousness. Some (take Sarbin or Wagstaff) believe the opposite about hypnosis, saying that it is but a group of mundane psychological functions in operation. I'm afraid I have not studied Lacan. Though it could perhaps, be hypothesised that it is a "bridge between the id and the ego, it would be difficult to justify such a belief indefinitely.
