It's nasty and all it does is ruin the book. Any very simple ways out there?

I worked in a bookstore for 6 years. We had to remove stickers before returning them to the publishers, and we used an iron. Just put it on a med/high setting and gently iron over the sticker till the glue turns loose. Gently remove any remaining residue with lighter fluid and a tissue as long as the sticker is on a slip cover.

Try a scrapbook store. They have a product that is used for removing sticky substances from photos. I would assume it is archival safe, but ask just in case. It is a liquid similar to goo gone. There is also an item that looks like a silicone eraser. Michael's and Hobby Lobby may be able to help as well. Good Luck! I am sure you will find the right product. If not, just ask your local librarian.

I would try Goo Gone. It works really well on most everything. Just put it on a corner of a washrag or papertowel then rub it on the sticker. Stuff works amazing. I even use it to get bumper stickers off vehicles!

You can actually buy some stuff specifically for removing the nasty snot-like glue you get on these stickers.

If you can't find that, then a solvent or acetone (small bits at a time though) will do the job.

At the bookstore I worked at we always used lighter fluid. We didn't sell "precious" books though, I hope you're exaggerating about that!

This is a very complicated puzzle, but I will put it in words for you: Put the same colors on the same side, that is how you solve it.
