Should you be thankful?

For a bag of crisps,
When calling for a buoyant float?
For a book to read,
As hunger pangs engulf your gut?
A thread bare vest, from fur clad donor,
With nights growing colder?
A condescending gesture,
Not even friendship, only kinship requested?
Coldness of impersonal greeting,
Not warmth of human meeting.
Shed tears for another’s dying pet,
While pain of those around let pass?
Is there place for real and genuine,
Where authentic is valued?
Or is phoney currency,
All that’s left?

Hi,
The thread of the poem is the artificiality and hypocrisy of some people. Those who say one thing but mean another. Those who pretend to care when they don’t and who give with one hand as they take with the other.
For those who are looking for an ‘easy’ poem to read with rhyme, maybe they should stick with ‘baa baa black sheep’and the like! Your poem does have merit. Poet above I would say needs to work harder or give up on their attempts to write poetry altogether! You should keep on writing.

I think anyone should be thankful if they can write what they're feeling. It is a good way to express themselves. I see what this poem is trying to say. Should you be thankful for a threadbare vest from a fur clad donor. Should you be thankful for a chest of gold if you're alone, deserted on an island with nothing to spend it on? It's a poem that gets you thinking. I agree with Polly. It has merit. Keep on writing.

No rhyme scheme, no
meter, no discernable point to it.
Just a string
of phrases
thrown together.
Could even be computer generated.
Hard to follow and hard to read.
No real talent involved
In the writing of this.
Sorry, but you asked.
See how easy
it is
to write the way you did?
Just keep hitting the ENTER key
To start a new line
And presto!
I'm a poet, too!

Sorry, Polly, but I DO write poetry, the REAL kind that takes talent and ability. Go to my 360 page if you want to see REAL poetry. Calling this crap poetry is like calling painting done by monkeys 'Art'. Oh, and if you want to respond to me, unlike yourself, I'm not afraid of opinons different from mine: you can email me or send a message to my 360 page.
