Bit the Bullet with Gene Hackman, about a horse race across the wild west is one of my favourites, wish it was available on DVD

True Grit and The Cowboys have to get a mention up near the top.

Not a real western as such, but I liked Last of the Dogmen

They will always have a soft spot for me, I watched westerns everyday Saturday with my Grandad, and now I am lucky enough to have taken part in several cattle round ups..... its a fab experience

Geni, it was the Cowboys.....and John Wayne DIED!!!!!

The Unforgiven is the best western in my opinon. It has great actors; Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Richard Harris.

It's not romantic, but realistic - a very uncompromising view of the wild west which explodes some myths and it's very well directed. The cinematography is pretty excellent too.

Agree with all who have mentioned Once upon a Time in the West, The G The B & The U, High Noon, Butch & Sundance and The Magnificent Seven...the scene when Vin (Steve McQueen) joins Chris (Yul Brynner) on the hearse to go up Boot Hill, is pure magic - and sends goose bumps up my arms every time!!

Edit:

Message for BREEZE...Bite the Bullet is available on DVD

I also liked this movie with two of my favourites, Gene & Candice, also the marvellous Ben Johnson...

Tombstone

I was sooo in love with Val Kilmer when I was a teenager in the mid 90's LOL

IT was well done, the script was incredible, Val Kilmer totally stole the show, and gave a performance that should have landed him an emmy. There was so much to read between the lines, so much to analyze. VERY awesome movie.

Absolutely, positively the answer is Once Upon a Time in the West. Every single aspect of this movie was/is great...the music, the acting, the action, the suspense, the storyline....it doesn't get any better.

The Good The Bad and The Ugly. Because everything else after that has just been a spoof of it. Nothing even comes close to it.

The Good, the Bad and The Ugly, hands down, no comparison, see the version not cut up to fit ina TV time slot, and in wide screen, it's a little better.
