80's west indies team. Those guys were amazing they played wonderful cricket. They had bowling that opposition throughout the world were scared of, plus they had a batting attack that any one person could tear apart the world's best bowling attack (after the WI attack that is)
Those guys played with love of the game, lack of technology to help them like the current Australian team who uses tons of gadgets to determine how to target certain players, the WI had no such luxury, they had to go out their with their bat and their ball and get the job done with sheer determination and talent.
Someone above remarked that the WI team isn't the best because they didn't have a spinner, but really in a team with 4 great, feared fast bowlers who can take wickets at any stage, they didn't need a spin bowler.

The WI team of 1980's under Sir Viv Richards and the Aussie team of 2007 under Ricky Ponting are equally great in contrasting style. The WI were invincible so are the Aussies now but the difference lies here. Whereas the West Indians were not arrogant even while being ferocious & invincible, the Aussies are an arrogant lot now.

It is the current Australian team. Because West Indies won 2 world cups consecutively, but Australia have won 3. Besides, Australia have also won a World Cup in 1987 as well.

Ricky's - for the simple reason of spin. The Windies never had a world class spinner - Australia have/had 3 in Warne, McGill and Hogg. The Australian batsmen have also shown themselves more capable of playing spin in difficult conditions. The Windies won 6 tests from 17 on the subcontinent in the 80s. Aust are 7 from 11 in the 2000s (excluding Bangladesh).

I do not know how many have seen the 1980s Windies team playing? The whole Aussie batting line up cannot make up one Viv just as the whole Lankan team cannot make one Aravinda. I also think Shaun Tait, McGrath, Brett Lee are no match for Malcolm Marshall. My goodness, did anyone of you see him bowl? Even Sunny, the best batsman India has produced could not face him with confidence.

This Aussie side has won the Cup confidently, but before that they were beaten by England and New Zealand. I expect that they would be soon be beaten by India and Sri Lanka.
