I think love is just a physical attraction, which we cover up and give it names like "romance" to make it seem "divine". Because our puritanical society and religion have taught us that sex is a sin.
It's an uncontrollable attraction, which some interpret as "love at first sight" or "the one". Tell me, how many times have you fell in love with an ugly or ordinary guy at first sight?
I think what unites two spouses is understanding, commitement, physical attraction, good sex and mostly children, and not that fictional thing called "love". Can you prove me wrong?

Love of the male-female sort evolved as a method of keeping
a man and a woman together for the purpose of raising children.
Otherwise, children would only have one parent, which would be
detrimental to their survival.

It makes sense that it is difficult to love an ugly person. In fact,
love may require a higher standard of phyiscal attractiveness than
lust. It does not make evolutionary sense to want to help raise the
children of an undesirable mate.

I agree, to a point-about love being just a physical attraction. In rare instances it may seem natural, even to the refined eye, but; -to determine what is lust vs what is love may be difficult, and if the focus is on romance lust may not be too far away. Maybe there is no divine love-human romance since all our attention should be focused on God.

I am a very plain and ordinary guy.I consider myself to be less than ordinary but I've had at least 3 women genuinely in love with me and they all thought i was " handsome".Two of those women were very goodlooking indeed. The third I married because I fell in love with her almost as soon as I met her.She too is less than attractive but I have loved her terribly since the start."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"."The eyes are the windows to the soul"...........

You started out talking about Lust.
That is a sin.
Love isn't a sin.
It's what you do, that can make it sinful.

Love is fictional?
I don't think so, and by stating that
I can tell you've never been in love.
Ohhhhhhhhhh, you just wait and see. :-D
