My guess was that the final was scheduled for Saturday in the caribbean because it would have been Sunday in other parts of the world, Asia, Australia, England, and the ICC were looking for tv viewership (that's where the money is). If it was held on the Sunday in the caribbean then a lot of persons would not have stayed up to look at it cos they probably had to work that day or the next day or something like that.
It's just a thought.

Well yes I firmly believe they should have gone for sunday to have the finals coz i dont believe that saturdays match was not a proper cricket match.If its a 50 over game yes definitely 50 overs have to be played.Some say that if they played all 50 overs they would have scored over 400 i believe no.Coz if it was 50 overs i dont believe that aussiees would have started of that violently since they have 50 overs.Their approach would have been different.We all know sri lankans are much better players when they play whole 50 overs.History proves that sri lanka hasnt won a single match where overs were reduced.
Eventually we must admit that aussiees were luckier and superior to us on that day but its people lik BURNING BRIGHTLY WHO MAKE STUPID COMMENTS MAKE US HATE AUSSIEEES.

sri lanka could have won under better circustances,
if it was a 50 over match
if the weather was better.
this was the only match in the world cup it wasnt 50 overs. they should have postponed it for the next day or a day the weather was good.

A "Terrible end to a Disappointing" World Cup which has done nothing to advance the game.
I believe that Australia is fighting unit and would have not beaten Srilanka over 50 overs.But having the final reduced to 38 overs and then played in the dark was a Joke.
Both teams should be given a fair opportunity. I ask the Sri Lankan supporters who have been so outspoken in their dispair of Australian supporters (only gentemen-not some good 4 nothing hooligans) not to blame Ausies for this farce.
Instead Blame the ICC who seem to make up rules as they go along. Personally I would have liked to see the match moved to Sunday so that we could have a real game of cricket and not the joke that ensued.

The dateof the final was decided much earlier. Who knew when the date was fixed that it will rain that day. While I fully agree that Sunday was the ideal choice, they may have fixed the final on Saturday, so that if by any chance final could not be played on Saturday, it can be played on Sunday instead of any week day.
