f(-3) = 5^(-3) = 1/5^3 = 1/125

Because the rule for negative exponents is: x^(-y) = 1/(x^y)

I just don't get what you meant...
I assume this:
f(x)=5, asked x=-3

the function f, f(x) = a^x
f(5) = a^(-3)
what is a?

then a = (-3)^√5

f(x)=5^x

f(-3)=5^(-3)

=1/(5^3)

=1/125
