If they ask, any suggestions? or does it depend on the type of establishment?

I have been in this situation so many times, I can't even tell you. I work with alot of men(banking). Honestly, I think the best drink the first time is regular ice tea or lemonaid. There is no where that says you have to drink on your first encounter and you need to stay sharp. After the third time going to a bar/restaurant then it is appropriate to have a drink and order whatever you want.

I believe in giving them no opinions about you socially in the beginning. The fact of you "not" ordering alcohol doesn't mean you can't hang or that you don't drink. It just means, you didn't feel like drinking that night:) Trust me....just say "I'll have an ice tea please".

While it may depend on the establishment, I would suggest a "velvet hammer,' made with ice cream, aestethically pleasing and tasty. And nearly everyone likes ice cream.
