I found some charts on-line which are a lot of fun, but they do not include varients like hazel. I have light blue eyes (mother's are green, father's are light blue). So, if his eyes are hazel, should I go with brown on the eye charts? His mother's eyes are blue, fathers are brown. I know brown is the dominant color, so is it more likely that our children will have brown eyes, or hazel? AAAAH! It is so confusing (but interesting)!

The baby's eyes will most likely be either hazel or blue. While brown is usually dominant, it isn't a perfect dominance. My husband has brown eyes that turn green/hazel when he is excited (including...um...physically) and my eyes are blue. I was hoping my kids would get his eyes but they both have blue eyes, we will have to see about number three (I'm at 31 weeks). He didn't get the brown, so it is unlikely that they will. If you guys have light colored hair (blondish or red) then I put my money on blue (I have strawberry blonde hair and the hubby has dishwater blonde). Genetics is fun!

You can't always go by charts or the color of the parents eyes. My eyes are green and my childrens daddy has brown eyes. And our 4th child was born with beautiful sky blue eyes. Everyone swore up and down that my b/f wasn't the babys daddy. He's now 14 months old with the same blue eyes! With our 3rd child, she was born with green eyes like me, but eventually turned brown like her dads by the time she was 6 months old.

My parents had 5 children. My mom has blue eyes, her mother had blue eyes, her father had blue eyes, my dad has brown eyes, his mom had green eyes, and his dad has brown. I have brown eyes, two of my brothers have blue, one has hazel, and the other brown.

It's anyones guess what your child will have.

It's not just what color the parents eyes are. (You and the father.) It's what gene's do you have. In other words what color were your parents eyes and their parents eyes and so on. There is also a factor of chance. Which genes from each of the parents DNA ends up in the child. Both my parents have brown eyes but I have a brother with blue. If you look into the family history, there were ancestors with blue eyes on both sides. In my parents the gene for blue eyes lined up with the gene for brown. And thus they got the dominant color...brown. However, in my brother the recesant(sp?) gene of blue from one parent lined up with another recesant (sp?)gene of blue from the other parent and thus he ended up with blue.

I heard it's dependant on the males father. In my case that is true. Both myself and my sig. other have brown eyes. My daughter eyes are so light brown and sometimes appear green. His fathers eyes are light brown.
