What makes them boring? I've also heard their play called robotic--what does that mean?
No smartass answers, please. I don't understand this because I live in San Antonio and love my team dearly, so my opinion is biased and I would like someone to answer this objectively.
Thanks.

they are good fundamentally but they are just really boring to watch

why?

No flashy plays...all tim duncan does is make jump hooks and basic dunks. Ginobilli used to make a couple of and one plays before but not nearly as much anymore. Parker is good but most of the time all he does is make easy layups. They don't score in transition that much as they play half court style offense (slow it down as much as you can and wear out your opponent)

They concentrate on defense and their oppenents barely score any points...umm offense sells you seats, defense wins you championships.

what would you rather watch? a bunch of teams goin back and forth making 3s and terriffic flashy dunks in transition or a very very slow down tempo game with both teams missing a boat load of shots with very few points on the board?

For crazy basketball fans who love fundamentals their games are a joy to watch but for casual fans (which make up about 75-80% of all basketball fans), their style of play is very boring

I love how the Spurs play. They are so methodical, and well coached. They put the clamps down defensively late in games when they need to make stops, and they usually force other teams to play their tempo. Granted, Duncan and company aren't the most athletic team, and they don't make very many plays that show up in the highlight reels, but all they do from season to season, is win consistently. Spurs fans should be proud of their team, and all the success it's enjoyed in winning three titles, and being a legitimate title contender each and every season. Dallas, Phoenix, and many other teams, would probably sell their soul to win just one title. If people say your team is boring, then take that as a compliment, because was it really suggests is that your team is successful.

I also live here in SA and love the Spurs, but I can understand why people say that. There is some legitimate basketball basis to it, in that the Spurs' defense makes other teams play slowly and look bad. And I'll admit that I do really like to watch the Suns play their up-tempo style sometimes just for a change of pace.

I revel in the fact that 'boring' is the biggest insult our detractors have. Just remember that as a Spurs fan, you can rightfully refer to almost any other team in the league right now as "flashy", "selfish", "thugs", and most importantly, "losers" by comparison.

People say they are boring because they play smothering defense and cut out fast breaks so that the game slows down to a grind. Plus all that D means a million fouls so half the game is on the free throw line.
I don't think they are boring though.

Spures are not boring at all... They are dangerous - especially if you are a suns fan. They do play a slower paced game which is why people may say they are robotic. It is also why they give the Suns fits. Suns like a fast tempo game and the Spurs like to grind it out. It puts the Suns out of thier element. I hope that helps to explain it. -jason

They play as a team and maybe that's why people think they are boring. They are my favorite team and I'm from S.A. area and you never hear of them beating their wives or raping women and they are very involved in the community. Oh and no DUI's or drug arrest either maybe that's why people think they or boring. I thought that last shot by Horry was anything, but boring tonight.

They're a very fundamentally sound team. They slow the game down with their defense and win by doing the little things and shutting down other teams. IMO they're VERY boring to watch. There's no flare to their game. Everything's: "Been there, done that".

The only excitement on that team is when Horry makes the buzzer beater/winning shot. Without him, the Spurs won't be that good.

They play a half court game. On offense they run set plays. They slow the game down. They have a grind it out style which slows the pace of the game down. They suck the life right out of the league. I HATE the spurs! GO SUNS!!!
