You can combine like terms when the amount under the radical (square root sign) is the same.

7 sqrt(2) + 5 sqrt(3) - 8 sqrt(2) =
(7-8) sqrt(2) + 5 sqrt(3) =
-sqrt(2) + 5 sqrt(3)
