Because -1 * 7 = -7 (the last term) & 7 + -1 = 6 (the coeffient of the 2nd term)

x^2 + 6x - 7 = x + 7
group similar terms(i.e taking x & 7 to L.H.S)
x^2 +6x - x -7 - 7 = 0
x^2 + 5x - 14 = 0
x^2 + 7x - 2x - 14 = 0
x(x+7) - 2(x+7) = 0
(x+7) (x-2) = 0
thus, x= -7,2
