YES. Mine started out as lower back pain and diarrhea-like cramps. When the pain comes and goes, and comes and goes, that is usually a sign that it is labor. Have her start writing down the time intervals and duration of each contraction and give the OB department at your hospital a call. A nurse will be able to talk to her at all hours of the night and advise her on whether or not she should come in. It may be a false alarm, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!!!

Sure sounds like it. Have her see if it gets better, worse or stays the same if she walks around vs lays down. If walking makes is stronger but laying down doesn't seem to change it, that usually means its labor. If she can sleep, tell her to do so, if she can't call your doctor's after-hours number or the labor and delivery unit at the hospital. Labor feels like a combination of menstrual cramps and like you've been standing on a hard floor all day. It is different for every woman but that is the usual. She can put her hand on her abdomen and feel if it is contracting. You will need to tell the doctor/nurse all these things. Tell her to eat light meals if she is hungry (a small sandwich, some Jello, etc, no steak or other big meals) and drink lots of water. If she has to pee or pass a bm, tell her not to fear pushing. Make any arrangements that you have put off (child care for older ones although I'm guessing this is her first, warn work etc). If you can, get some sleep yourself but don't leave your wife to worry all night alone. Good luck, I hope this is it for you!

It very well could be early labor. Have her time them (length and time between) to see if there's a pattern. Help her to get as much rest as she can because she will need her strength.

Most contractions (active labor) don't last 2 minutes though. Also have her walk as much as she can.

yeah it very well could be. if they get to extremely painful i would say so . i say wait till tomorrow and if it is still going on call your obgyn and ask him/her if you should go to the hospital. a baby can still survive outside the womb at 38 weeks but still can be dangerous don't get to panicked call the doctor and take what ever precautions you need to , to ensure the heath of the mother and the baby. it could also be brakston hicks witch is premature labor pains with out dilation

It could be labor. I have 3 kids, and all three time, my labor started in my back. Call your doctor and tell him/her about this, or if her water breaks, get to the hospital.

CONGRATULATIONS BABY WILL BE OUT SOON. I just got chicken skin. I'm excited for you folks. Just comfort her and wait til they are stronger and closer together. Call the doctor and doctor will tell you when to bring her in. Although it hurts for her take her to walk around the house or to the movies. walking opens up the pelvis more.
