Depends on who you ask, why cant we have both, why the choice between one and the other.
If we have freedom do we have to give up security?
I for one would sacrifice my personal freedoms for security, I don't give a damn if they search me at the airport or if they look at my emails.
I have nothing too hide, I will do what ever it takes to stop the terrorist from hitting this country, we should all have this point of view, but now in this society we feel 'violated" if the government tries to stop the terrorist, everyone says they are trying to take away personal freedoms, that is the goal of the terrorist, thay want you dead or muslim, no other choices.
Now I for one would rather live in the US with Bush as its leader than Osama, thats Osama not Obama, but him either.
I am getting to the point where I think the US citezens deserve what is coming, a bunch of bloated spoiled, hedonistic self centered people.
The wise in this country are a minority and shrinking, how could Al Gore go from a clown as VP to this global warming expert and respected at that.

They are equally as important. Anybody who doesn't grasp this is a mindless fool.

Anarchy is the "society" with the greatest amount of freedom.. but does anybody really want to live in a completely lawless state?

Every law ever made degrades freedom in one way or another. But many of them improved our life.. a trade of freedom for security.

From a founding father.....

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. "
Benjamin Franklin

"Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security."
Benjamin Franklin

The corporate media wasn't around in 1776 to turn the founding fathers into gutless sheep. Ben rocks ! Freedom rocks !

Good question, the answer is freedom. Giving up freedom does not bring security, it only causes tyranny as Alex Jones would say.

Freedom!

I am not giving up the freedoms millions died for because so many of you are whimps and are afraid to die! You want everyone else to do it for you.

And that isn't even a valid question! Makes me sick to hear people talk about giving up their freedoms just because they are peeing their pants and believe there is a real emergency everytime bush raises the alerts!

Afraid to die...move and give up your freedoms elsewhere!

As Benjamin Franklin once said so well:

THEY THAT WOULD SURRENDER ESSENTIAL LIBERTY IN RETURN FOR SECURITY DESERVE NEITHER!

You can be Free or you can be safe. We can't have it both ways. We can be Free Men and Women facing danger and overcoming it, or we can be Slaves, safe and secure in our ghetto, secure in the knowledge that our Master will defend us from everyone except himself.

th answer relies upon on the situation: we are constantly entitled to freedom to stay and not experience infringed/discriminated against. as long simply by fact the regulations passsed for safety do no longer infringe upon our freedom in this regard then there is not any conflict between the two

Without Freedom Americans may not have security. Most of the cry babies today want the security and freedom as long as they aren't the ones who have to fight for it.

When we are in the middle of a war that is protecting both our freedom and security, the left have the freedom of speech (that others have fought for) to spew lies and accusations without regard of consequence. They sleep in peace without once thinking of the people who have made it possible for them to do that.
